Yesterday work took me to Ipswich.
For those in my network who might not know much about this County Town of Suffolk, I thought I would share a few interesting facts about the town that used to be known as Gippeswic:
- Ipswich is one of the oldest continuously inhabited towns in the UK, over 1,400 years old, and before that was once home to one of the largest concentrations of woolly mammoths in Britain.
- Ipswich Town F.C. is officially the oldest town football club in the world, and has recently secured promotion to the Premier League (I am reliably informed this is a big deal).
- Ipswich, although most definitely a town, has been longlisted for the 2029 City of Culture. This is a fantastic opportunity for the town and its many small businesses, with the winning bid receiving £10 million in Government funding and hosting multiple cultural events through 2029 (the winning area will be announced by the end of this year).
Beyond the culture, football and mammoths, the town has a huge amount to offer, including its beautiful waterfront. Not a bad way to spend a Wednesday.
