Accessibility

How this website is built, and what to do if part of it does not work for you.

What we are aiming for

We want this website to be usable by as many people as possible, including anyone using a screen reader, navigating by keyboard, or viewing the site at a large text size. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. We have not had the site independently audited, so this is a statement of intent and of what has been done, rather than a claim of certified conformance.

What has been done

  • The pages are built from ordinary headings, lists and landmarks, so the structure makes sense when it is read aloud rather than looked at.
  • Everything can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and the element you are on is clearly outlined.
  • Text colours were chosen against the background for contrast, and no information is conveyed by colour alone.
  • Images carry text descriptions, and decoration is hidden from screen readers rather than announced as a meaningless image.
  • Movement on the page respects the reduced motion setting in your operating system. If you have asked your device for less animation, you will not get any.
  • Nothing plays automatically, nothing flashes, and nothing moves on a timer that you cannot stop.
  • The site works at 200 per cent zoom and on a narrow phone screen without anything being cut off.

Known limitations

We are not aware of any at present. That is not the same as there being none, which is why the next section matters.

Tell us

If you find something that is hard to use, or impossible, please write to johanna@strategicsciencesolutions.co.uk and describe what happened and what you were using. We will fix what we can, and where a fix will take time we will tell you how else to get what you needed.
