What this notice covers

This notice is about personal information collected through this website. Information you give us during a piece of work is dealt with in the agreement covering that work.

What we collect

When you use the enquiry form we collect your name, your email address, the subject you choose, your message, the IP address the message was sent from, and the identifying string your browser sends. The last two are kept because they are what allow automated abuse to be recognised.

If you email us directly, we hold that message and whatever it contains.

The server keeps ordinary access logs, which include IP addresses, for a short time, so that faults and abuse can be investigated.

We use no analytics, no advertising software and no tracking of any kind.

Why we use it, and on what basis

To reply to you. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests, namely answering someone who has approached us. Where your enquiry is about engaging us, we also rely on taking steps at your request before entering into a contract.

To keep a record of enquiries. Legitimate interests, namely running the business and being able to look back at what was said.

To keep the site working and free of abuse. Legitimate interests, namely security and availability.

Who else sees it

Old Forge Technologies build and look after this website and its email. They act on our instructions, under contract, and for no other purpose.

IONOS provide the server the website runs on and the mailbox it sends from and receives to.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not pass it to anyone for their own marketing.

Where it is held

In the United Kingdom.

How long we keep it

• Enquiries that do not become work: TO CONFIRM, suggested two years from your last contact with us.
• Records relating to clients: for as long as the relationship lasts, and then for six years, which is the period ordinarily needed for tax and for defending a claim.
• Server access logs: fourteen days.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies. Nothing is loaded from another company's servers, so nothing follows you between sites. That is why you are not asked to accept anything: there is nothing to accept.

The private area used to edit the site sets one cookie, so that whoever is editing stays signed in. It is set only after signing in, it is necessary for that purpose, and it never reaches an ordinary visitor.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, to restrict how we use it, to object to our using it, and to receive it in a portable form. Where we rely on legitimate interests you may object, and we will stop unless there are compelling grounds to continue.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so that we have the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
